Muhlenberg pulls away from Football, 41-27

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Homestanding Muhlenberg broke open a four point game with 17 unanswered points as the Mules (8-1, 7-1 Centennial) defeated Ursinus (6-3, 5-3 Centennial) 41-27 Saturday afternoon at Scotty Wood Stadium.

Muhlenberg quarterback Nick Palladino threw for four touchdowns and 375 yards as the Mules had 459 yards of total offense.

Ursinus was led by 191 yards and three touchdown passes from senior quarterback Kevin Monahan, who threw two touchdown passes to senior wide out Darius Jones. Jones finished with team-highs in catches with six and yardage with 70.

Junior defensive back Kyle Adkins finished with a game-high 16 tackles, with sophomore linebacker Tim Rafter making 12 stops. Junior linebacker James Roccograndi had ten tackles on the day, with junior defensive lineman Steve Ambs getting two forced fumbles, two sacks and nine tackles. The Bears did finish with six sacks on the day.

Trailing 10-0 in the second quarter, Ursinus got on the board with 8:55 left in the half when sophomore running back Corey Kelly ran from 1-yard out for a 10-6 deficit. The Bears got the ball in the red zone when Palladino was sacked by Ambs and senior linebacker Michael Moronese recovered the fumble at the Muhlenberg 5-yard line.

Following a Muhlenberg touchdown, Ursinus got within four at 17-13 when Monahan threw a 9-yard pass to Jones with 2:12 left. Muhlenberg, however, would score with 26 seconds left and take a 24-13 lead into halftime.

After a field goal and a touchdown gave the Mules a 34-13 lead, Ursinus got back within two scores when Monahan threw a 2-yard touchdown pass to junior tight end Safi Hasseeb with 10:11 left in the fourth.

Ursinus' final score came with 33 seconds left when Jones caught a 27-yard pass from Monahan with 33 seconds left.

The Bears host Dickinson to close the season next Saturday.
