Desiderio scores twice as football downs Juniata, 21-7

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Ursinus College senior wide receiver Al Desiderio (Philadelphia, Pa./Roman Catholic) scored on a 38-yard touchdown pass and a 65-yard punt return in the second quarter as the Bears (4-2, 4-1 Centennial) defeated Juniata (0-6, 0-5 Centennial) 21-7 Saturday afternoon. 

Desiderio's two scores highlighted the Bears' fourth straight win as Ursinus held Juniata to 181 yards of total offense, including just 80 yards over the final three quarters.

Trailing 7-0 after one quarter, Ursinus got on the board with 6:08 left in the half as Desiderio scored on his touchdown pass from sophomore quarterback Chris Curran (Oceanview, N.J./Ocean City) on a second-and-5. Desiderio would score his punt return TD just 1:56 later for a 14-7 Ursinus. It was the second time that Desiderio actually returned a punt for a score, but, his first attempt was called back due to a holding penalty.

Ursinus forced three Juniata fumbles on the afternoon, keeping the Eagles out of Ursinus territory during the second half of the game.

Sophomore running back Bryan Ellis (Baltimore, Md./McDonogh School) rushed for a game-high 72 yards on 20 carries, while sophomore wide receiver Jerry Rahill (Chalfont, Pa./Archbishop Wood) had four catches for 45 yards. Desiderio finished with a game-high 60 yards on three catches.  Desiderio finished with 187 yards of all-purpose yards. 

Curran, who scored on a 1-yard touchdown sneak with 2:54 left in the game, finished the day 11-for-24 for 154 yards and score.

Defensively, senior linebacker Greg Martell (Levittown, Pa./Neshaminy) had a game-high ten tackles and two sacks, with senior defensive back Mike Rissmiller (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) going for eight tackles and a sack. 

Juniata was led by freshman quarterback Ward Udinski who had 69 yards rushing and was 7-for-15 passing for 64 yards. Freshman wide receiver Hunter Phillips had 13 yards on three catches.

Ursinus sets its sights on two straight road games, starting with a road trip to Susquehanna next Saturday.
