Exeter Elected Sportsmanship Award Winner

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Ursinus College baseball coach Stan Exeter has been recognized for his integrity and honor as one of three recipients of the 2018 Centennial Conference Sportsmanship Award.

The Sportsmanship Award honors one male, one female, and one coach/administrator who have distinguished themselves through demonstrated acts of sportsmanship and ethical behavior. They were selected from a pool of student-athletes and coaches nominated by the Conference's 11 member institutions and will now be placed on the ballot for the NCAA Division III National Sportsmanship Award this summer. Exeter was honored alongside Swarthmore women's soccer senior Hannah Lichtenstein and Gettysburg senior wrestler Louie Carusillo.

Exeter was nominated by Ursinus' Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) for his honorable acts toward competitors and officials. Exeter is an inspiration to his student-athletes, as his example and leadership motivates them to play and conduct themselves with the upmost respect for others. His student-athletes noted, "Every game, prior to the first pitch he makes sure to shake the third baseman's hand and wish him good luck in the game as he makes his way to coach third base."

More specifically, prior to the national anthem at Ursinus' home doubleheader against McDaniel, Exeter organized a brief ceremony to recognize McDaniel head coach Dave Seibert, who was to retire at the conclusion of the season. Exeter's commitment to sportsmanship and small acts of kindness has positively shaped the collegiate experience of those around him.

Exeter has spent the past six seasons as head coach of the baseball program. He ranks third in school history with 93 victories and led the Bears to the CC championship final in 2017.
