Baseball stays alive with 10-4 win over Swarthmore

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - Two days removed from their historic comeback against Arcadia, the Ursinus baseball team fought through another comeback topping Swarthmore 10-4, Friday evening at Thomas Field.

The Bears improve to 16-15 and 7-9 in the Centennial Conference, and continue to have an outside chance to sneak into the playoffs. The Garnet drop their record to 17-16 and 6-10 within the conference, eliminating them from the playoffs.

Senior Josh Snell at his final home game, at Thomas field, went 4-5 with three runs two RBI's and two doubles.

Ursinus took an early lead in the first inning off a Christopher Jablonsk RBI and an RBI single from Austin Kurey, up 2-1.

Swarthmore Senior Nico Burnett took the lead back for the Garnet with a two run home run over the left field wall, taking a 3-2 lead. In the top of the fourth the Garnet added to their lead with a sacrifice fly making it 4-2.

The Bears began their comeback with a Devyn Kerr RBI single to drive in CJ Diana. With the bases loaded Ralph Arura was hit by a pitch, making it his 40th of his career. Next Timo Muro drove in another run off a towering sacrifice fly to left field that advanced another run. Schnell finished off the Bears big inning with a single to left field driving in Aurora and Vincent Terry making it 7-4.

Alex Manacher stepped onto the mound and shut down the Garnet going five and two thirds innings only giving up two hits and struck out three batters to get his third win of the season.

Ursinus looks to stay alive for playoff contention with a double header at McDaniel Saturday afternoon.
