Email: melius87@gmail.com

Tyler Melius enters his sixth year as a volunteer assistant coach for both the cross country and track & field teams. Working primarily with the men’s mid-distance and distance groups, Melius specializes in all events ranging from the 800 to the 10k.

In his first five years with the program, many of the men’s distance and mid-distance runners saw significant improvements. Most notably, mid-distance specialist Drew Mackin dropped his time from 1:55 to 1:50 in the 800M, which qualified him for the 2016 NCAA outdoor championship. This past fall the men’s XC team set a program record of 26:26 for their top-5 average over 8k. Leading the way were Marcos Maciel and James McDaid, both dipping under 26 minutes. McDaid concluded his stellar career as one of the most decorated distance runners in school history boasting times of 4:24 in the mile and 15:15 for 5k.

Prior to Ursinus, Melius was a standout student-athlete at Slippery Rock University where he excelled in both the classroom and on the track.

A three-time Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference track champion and three-time All-Atlantic Region Team honoree, Melius was also a member of two record-setting relay teams (Indoor 4x800 and Outdoor 4x800) at Slippery Rock. At the conclusion of his senior year, he was named to the PSAC Top-10 List for his accomplishments.

In 2015, he graduated Summa Cum Laude from Slippery Rock with a bachelor’s degree in Safety and Environmental Management and a minor in Spanish.

Melius holds a USATF Level 1 Coaching Certification and an Endurance Specialist Certification through the USTFCCCA.
