A highly decorated local product, Mike Spaid joined the Ursinus College wrestling staff prior to the 2017-18 season.

A Boyertown High School legend, Spaid finished his prep career with a record of 116-14. He was a three-time sectional champion, two-time district champion, and one-time regional champion, and won the PIAA heavyweight title in 2004. That year, he became the only Pennsylvania wrestler to register all pins in the postseason.

From Boyertown, Spaid went on to a decorated career at Bloomsburg University. He was 117-49 with the Huskies, qualifying for the NCAA Championships all four years and earning All-America honors with an eight-place finish in 2007. He was a three-time Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) champion and a two-time Eastern Wrestling League (EWL) champion.  

Spaid, who served as an assistant coach at Bloomsburg High School (2008-09) and at (2009-17) before coming to Ursinus, is a member of the PA District 1 Hall of Fame, the PA Tri-County Hall of Fame, the Berks County Hall of Fame, the Boyertown Hall of Fame, and the EWL Hall of Fame.
