Matt Kade enters his seventh year as an assistant coach on the men’s and women’s track and field staff. In his first six years with the Bears, Kade has guided several athletes to All-Centennial Conference accolades and multiple school records including 5 individual and 10 relay conference champions.

For the men, Sam Pope won both the indoor and outdoor conference titles in the triple jump and was awarded CC Rookie of the Year. In 2019, freshmen Tyler Reilly won the outdoor 400 in a time of 49.94. The 4x200-meter relay defended their title at the 2020 Indoor Conference Championships while setting a school record in a time of 1:31.74. Additionally, Austin Bittenbender broke the outdoor long jump school record that had stood since 1938 with a leap of 22’9” and Octavious Carter set the 60-meter school record with a time of 7.02.

On the women’s side, heptathlon national qualifier Krista Snyder broke both the indoor and outdoor long jump record with a mark of 17’11.5”. Morgan Cope set both the indoor and outdoor school records in the pole vault with a leap of 11’5”. The 4x200-meter relay defended their title at the 2020 Indoor Conference Championships and the 4x100-meter relay earned gold at the 2021 Outdoor Conference Championships.

Prior to Ursinus, Kade experienced great success as the head track and field coach at Daniel Boone High School, where he worked primarily with the sprinters, jumpers, and hurdlers. Under his tutelage, his athletes earned 15 county championships, five district championships, six state medals, and trips to both the indoor and outdoor national championships.

Kade graduated from Kutztown University in 2008 with a bachelor’s degree in Education. He was a member of the men’s soccer team and served as the treasurer of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). Outside of his coaching duties, Kade works as a Math Specialist in the Daniel Boone Area School District and holds a master’s degree in Educational Development & Strategies. Kade has also earned Technical and Jump Specialist Certifications from the USTFCCCA and a USATF Level I Coaching Certification.
