Atillasoy, McMann Named Most Outstanding Male Athletes

Lacrosse's Hakan Atillasoy and track and field's Griffin McMann have been chosen as recipients of the Most Outstanding Male Athlete award, the Ursinus College Athletic Department announced Friday. The honor is reserved for the top male student-athlete(s) in the graduating class.

Atillasoy leaves as one of the all-time greats in the 20-year history of NCAA men's lacrosse at Ursinus. Despite playing only seven games last season and six this spring, he ranks fourth in school history in goals (107), fifth in points (157), and eighth in assists (50).

A first team All-Centennial Conference honoree this season, Atillasoy was named the CC Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2020, when he also earned CoSIDA Academic All-District honors and fourth team Media All-America accolades from Inside Lacrosse. He is a three-time CC Academic Honor Roll recipient. Atillasoy is also a two-time Centennial offensive player of the week and a one-time USILA Division III Team of the Week honoree.

Atillasoy's name is all over the program record book. He owns the all-time record for goals in a game with nine, set last year against Muhlenberg, and his 55 goals and 80 points from the 2019 campaign are both second-most in school history. Atillasoy received the Ehret Prize from the Ursinus College Athletic Department as part of its annual awards.

McMann capped his championship career in historic fashion, winning a trifecta of gold medals in the discus, hammer, and shot put at the CC outdoor championships. He became the first athlete in league history to accomplish that feat and was duly named outstanding field performer of the meet.

McMann also pulled off the shot put/weight throw double at the 2020 indoor championships. He was a USTFCCCA All-Mideast Region honoree in the shot put, and holds the program record in the weight throw.

A three-time CC Academic Honor Roll recipient, McMann was named an All-Academic Athlete by the USTFCCCA a year ago. He received the Kichline Prize from the Ursinus College Athletic Department as part of its annual awards.
