Ursinus Hosts Norristown Middle-School Students

Twenty-five middle school students from Eisenhower Science and Technology Leadership Academy in Norristown recently visited Ursinus to tour the campus and athletic facilities, as well as participate in a panel discussion with a selection of current student-athletes.

The middle school students met with Aliyah Stephens '21 (Women's Basketball), Lucas Olshevski '21 (Men's Basketball), Samuel Ragland '21 (Football), and Alex Soriano '19 (Baseball). The student-athletes talked about their backgrounds, interests, what it is like to be a collegiate athlete, what it takes to get to college, and how to succeed both in their sport and in the classroom. Towards the end of the panel, the Eisenhower students had the opportunity to ask questions of their student-athlete hosts from Ursinus.

In the end, the visit was beneficial not only to the 25 visiting students, but to Ursinus' student-athletes as well.

"It was a pleasure to share some of my experiences and the challenges of being a student-athlete with them," Olshevski said. "Their engagement was incredible and they were all very willing to listen, learn, and ask questions about life in college. Hopefully after hearing from four successful student-athletes who were once in their same position, these young students are able to take something valuable away from our discussion and apply it to their own lives. We can learn a lot from the successes and failures of others, which is what made this opportunity so rewarding for me. They were a great bunch with bright futures!"
