Williams Named Assistant T&F Coach

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Ursinus College track and field coach Carl Blickle has announced the hiring of Stargell Williams, a former star thrower at Florida State University, as a new assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. Williams, who has spent the last two years as throws coach at Hillsdale College (Mich.), will work primarily with the Bears' throwers.

"We are thrilled to welcome Stargell to our staff," Blickle said. "Stargell's successful coaching experience at Hillsdale College and Florida State paired with a highly successful career at the Division I level will greatly benefit the continued development of our current and future student-athletes."

Williams' tremendous athletic career started at Coffeyville (Kansas) Community College, where he was a three-time national championship thrower and two-time All-American at the NJCAA level before returning to his hometown to join the Division I Seminoles. Williams helped lead Florida State to two Atlantic Coast Conference titles during his time there, and was a two-time NCAA East Regional qualifier in the shot put. He was runner-up in the shot put at the 2013 ACC Championship and ended his career with a personal-best mark of 59-4.5 at the 2015 NCAA East prelims.

Williams was also a standout student, earning two NJCAA indoor and outdoor Academic All-America certificates at Coffeyville before collecting three ACC Academic Honor Roll laurels and a USTFCCCA All-Academic nod at Florida State.

After graduating from Florida State in 2015 with a bachelor's degree in sport management, Williams served as a volunteer assistant with the track and field program and as a facilities and event management assistant before accepting his next post at Hillsdale College. In two years there, Williams signed seven throwers and produced four NCAA Division II qualifiers in addition to an All-American in the hammer.
